Mandai Zoo-Kranji Dam Running Route (15.5km)

Click to view route link in detail, contributed by soleburner at Earth@sg.

Training. This will be my second long-distance training run for the Standard Chartered Marathon, so the distance is increased to 15.5km.

Toughness. The route is what I would call a 'dry' route, because there are not many places along the route where you can buy a drink other than 1 or 2 shops near Kranji. So this may be a challenging route, especially for the current hot weather.

Where you can get drinks. (1) There are 'mama' shops and coffee shops at the junction between Kranji Loop and Kranji Road (thankfully!). (2) There is also an industrial food centre along Sungei Kadut Street 1.

Meeting Place. Your running group can meet at the Mandai Zoo entrance (via 927, 926 or 138).

What's nice. Follow the route map all the way to Kranji Dam, where you can take nice photographs of yourselves in the scenic view overlooking the Straits of Johor. If you have not been to the Kranji Dam, you really should try this route :). It's quite a nice and peaceful place in the evening.

Bukit Batok-MacRitchie Running Route (14.0km)

Click to view route link in detail, contributed by soleburner at Earth@sg.

Training. For people looking to start off their Marathon training with a 14-km route, you can try this one, takes you to perhaps places you never knew existed in Singapore :P.

Meeting Place. This route allows your running group to meet at a convenient spot Bukit Batok MRT station.

Where you can get a drink. The first 4-ish km is straight-forward road run until you hit the petrol station along Bukit Timah/Rifle Range (see map). Note that this will be your last hydration point before you carry on to do the next 10km, so drink up if you must.

What's nice. After the petrol stop, the route takes you inside Rifle Range road, leading to a bridge that cuts across BKE and into the MacRitchie reserve. From there, you can enjoy the forest trail run inside MacRitchie. It will be an interesting run for those adventurous souls.

Caution. Another caution is to start your run earlier to avoid being trapped in the darkness of the forest trail in the closing evening.

MacRitchie Running Route - 11.2km

Click to view route link in detail, contributed by soleburner at Earth@sg.

A interesting cross-terrain route with 2.65km of boardwalk, followed by 5km of forest trail, and a remaining 3km of road deviating out to the main Thomson Road. Running groups can use the reservoir pavilion as the meeting, warmup and start point.

This route should provide a refreshing change for those who have been training mostly on road paths. Also, the forest trail provides for a cool run in the morning or evening.

Caution: If you plan to run in the evening, try to start the route before 5:30pm, otherwise it can get quite dark in the forest trail.
